From kylana.14th at gmail.com Mon Jan 18 15:18:57 2010 From: kylana.14th at gmail.com (Kylana ~) Date: Mon, 18 Jan 2010 12:18:57 -0800 Subject: [Vimyridge] SD950118.12 - Duty Log - Ens Sorala Fen Message-ID: <> Sorala woke up to the sound of the computer. She felt as if someone had tied a rope around her waist and pulled hard and she was sweating. "Think , think! ok, right I need to report to the Cheif engenier." She walked over to her storage compartment and took out her uniform, silently she put on her uniform and sat on the bad for a minuite to gather her thoughts. She could her the soft buzzing noise of the Galaxy class starship and the dim lights relaxed her enough for Sorala to get up and start walking to engeniering. She walked swiftly and appeared calm but was still nervous inside. She was trying to remember all of her starfleet engeniering training so that she wouldent mess up causing an awkward incident undoutably involving the sentance "Its ok everybody makes mistakes to begin with". Sorala's pretty low self esteem was flying through her head. "The best i can hope for is not to screw up! I hope I dont let the captain down on my first day aboard the Vimy Ridge, I would hate to upset anybody so soon", She thought. Sorala laid sight upon the Turbolift. She entered the turbolift, "Deck 36, main engeniering" The turbolift lift started moving, slowly at first and then faster and faster. "This isn't like the simulations or shuttlecrafts, there's a majestic pulsating feeling...". The doors opened and before Sorala was the warp core, wonderous, glowing and fully operational. Sorala was ordered to perfom routine maintenance on deck 6 of the saucer section. She decided that she should get a bit a exercise and use the Jefferies tubes to get there. It was much harder than the simulations on the holodecks and far hotter. Sorala found herself wiping the sweat off of her face and yet it gave her a strange pleasure. When she got there Sorala felt comfortable and at home with all the science going on around her and was really starting to enjoy her work. She moved on to the other transported rooms, some of them had some very minor malfunctions in the lesser systems, nothing life threatening. She was soon completely transfixed in her work and whiled away a good portion of the day making sure that absoloutly nothing was wrong on Deck 6 saucer section. She was very happy that nothing was going wrong so far and the crew all seemed friendly, smiling or nodding at her when she passed them in the corridoors. Sorala was then told to repair a replecator in Ten Forward. This made Sorala a little more nervous. "what if i get something wrong and they have to call someone else to repair the replicator?relax Sora you've done this hundreds of times before on the holodeck! Relax it'll be ok". When she got their Sorala found ,with at least a little poking around, that the replicator was not recieving the order because of a problem in the voice recognition subroutines. "That should do the trick!" ,Sorala said, "One um.. Vulcan spice Tea." The tea materialized in a cup in front of her. Sora took a sip of the tea , paused, and then said "Yep, its working now, sure enough". The vulcan spice tea gave off a rich and yet bland smell that contredicted itself, it was Relaxing and she felt as if her synesis had been opened as she drank. "thank you she said". Sorala then reported back to engeniering, where she was told to finish the day "at least for now". So she wen't to the holodeck. She steped inside. "Computer , program a gymnasium, 60square feet. Now program a balance board, width 2 feet, length .. 15 feet.Add a punching bag, hanging from the cieling by an iron chain and filled with sand. Ok now a cycling machine specially for someone who is 1.77 meters tall. Save program as Sorala Gymnasium." She began her normal fitness routine for times when she had to get rid of excess energy, She did pressups until her arms began to hurt, and then sit-ups until her stomach hurt. After this she proceded to Run 50 laps of the gymnasium. Although not an incredibly demandy work out it helps her to relax. She headed back to her quarters at around 21 hundred hours and sat down at a chair. "Computer, is Beethovens 5th synphony stored in data banks?" "Yes" Replied the computer. "Computer , Play that file." Sorala sank back into her chair and listened to the music. She could feel her muscles relaxing and she was filled with a warm , joyus feeling and she slowly ambled over to he storage compartment and took out her pyjamas. "Computer , one glass of water ." The water formed and Sorala took it and put it by her bed. "Dim lights." the lighting level droped and Sorala Changed into her pyjamas. "Computer wake me up at 05 hundred hours". She took a gulp of water and turned so she was facing her left side. She lisened to the Soft Humming noise of the ship and reflected back on her day. "Today was enjoyable, im looking forward to tommorow , i think that ill be able to feel at home here, and im looking forward to getting to know the crew better". Then her eyes closed and she drifed into a deep sleep. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Has anyone been able to convince the locals to be transported off the planet to safety? Saladin mentioned they weren't wanting to be moved." Toby sighed, and pushed down the less than polite or kind thought he had about Cait trying to save the life of someone who may not really want saving. [shuttle] "No idea Commander." Justin looked over at Cait "Doc? Do you have an answer?" "I hadn't heard anything new." Cait replied as she worked on the woman. "But something seemed...odd. When I was taken over to those who were ill, Xoron, who appeared to be one of the leaders, told me that the first person who had taken sick, was better. In actuallity, she was nearly dead." Cait rechecked the scans and sighed, motioning for the tech to stop. "There's complete organ failure. Its like she's dissolving from the inside. There's nothing we can do except make her comfortable." The Doc's voice sounded weary and depressed. [Vimy] "Try not to take it personal Doc, it isn't your fault that she was shown to you too late. If the innoculations are done, try to see if you can get any of them to agree to being evacuated, if not, it just might be time to come home." He worked very hard to keep his voice firm, with just enough compassion to show he wasn't unfeeling of what they were going through down there, but time for the team was starting to run out if Nix didn't find an external cause to the flares soon, they'd have to abandon them to their fate. "I know its not my fault and we can't save everyone. It frustrates me because I just can't figure out why she didn't get any care. There are things any doctor could do to slow things down and there had to be doctors here." Cait ran her fingers through her short hair. "Captain," said a blueshirt at the science console, "Sensors have picked up seismic activity about one hundred kilometres south west but I was not able to determine the severity." Vilqa's brow furrowed, "Lox did you pick that up? Seismic activity has been picked up. The cave structures; do you see weaknesses? And confirm if you pick up the activity at your location." [Surface] "Detected activity, it is really deep. By the time it reached the surface it was a minor tremor. For the moment, not something to worry about.. by itself." Lox replied. "The caves are showing no signs of weakness.. they are volcanic though. If there is a magma pool under that mountain still... it could start to get really hot in there if it decided to start making its way to the surface." [Vimy] "Lox," Vilqa had no qualms, "Monitor the situation however the moment you detect possible danger to the team recall everybody and take them out. We have no room for heroism." The part klingon knew she had the majority of her senior team members on the surface and the Ridge could not afford to lose her whole senior staff team. She hoped Cait heard her words as well. After a look at the Captain Toby spoke, "Commanders, we really need to know what is going on with the locals, and get you people out of there before its no longer safe to do so. Please return to the others and let us know as soon as possible what is going on." [Shuttle] Lox nodded, though nobody could hear him do so, "Understood Captain, Commander. I request that you have engineering prep a seismic probe and fire it into the valley on the far side of the mountains from where we are located. It will assist in the detection, without causing additional risk to those in the caves from it's impact. I will also relay to Commander Saladin that we need to get those people off the planet right away, and that their alternative is death here from the radiation." He turned and did a quick scan of Cait's suit, and the suit of the Med tech that came back with her. [Vimy Ridge] "Understood Commander," then Vilqa warned, "However we cannot force anybody off the planet against their will." Toby shook his head and sighed, glancing at the captain, then rolled his eyes. [Shuttle] Justin then reset his comm. to change contactees "Lox to Salidan, I need to speak with you privately if possible." He frowned as the readings showed up from his scans. Saladin was with Wilkinson, about to help the medical officers with some of the extra work when Justin's comm came in. He nodded to Wilkinson and stepped aside, "Saladin here. I hear you." He paused, "I'll make my way back to the caves entrance, should be maybe five minutes or so. That quick enough?" If he only went half way back the caves might echo his words and others might overhear. "Fair enough." Lox replied. He tapped him comm to close the connection and wait. "Doctor Blake, I recommend full EVA suits, at all time if we are here for much longer. Radiation levels are increasing faster than anticipated. The metaphasic shields are holding, but the ground is still soaking up Mega-rads of of radiation, and conveying that into the caves via the air and water, and along mineral veins. I suspect they were giving that woman water that was heavily contaminated. " Lox said while he waited for Saladin to contact him back. [Caves] Kat looked over as she'd overheard Saladin's com. And then grew concerned as she saw him step away. She paused her work in dealing with the group of people next to her and turned to scan the area around them. The tricorder revealed slight increases in the radiation. She swallowed hard as she looked again hoping she was just seeing things. She tapped her com trying not to add panic to her voice though any empath around would sense her worry. "Wilkinson to Doctor Blake" she said. She'd felt slight vibrations under her feet and thought nothing of it though now it was a different matter. "Blake here. How are things progressing with the inoculations?" Cait replied back. "Things are pretty well wrapped up as far as the inoculations go." she told her. Kat's voice seemed to quiver a bit as worry or was it fatigue that was catching up with her. "I've run across a few severe cases of radiation poisoning, I gave them enough meds to keep them comfortable." she told her. "I'm not sure how much more we can do for these people if they're determined to remain in these caves." she added with a frown. It would be evident that the doctor was growing weary of being in the caves. "I've made a few scans of the caves and the results have me a little worried , is there anything new I should be aware of?" she asked. "Radiation levels are increasing. The rest I'd rather tell you in person. We have to find some way of getting through to these people or they're all going to be dead....and in a most unpleasant way. I'm bringing the scans of the woman we brought to the shuttle. I also want everyone back in full EVA. Helmets and all." Cait sounded as weary as Kat. Kat sighed heavily as she adjusted her helmet making her rounds with the team running a quick scan over the suits to ensure they were holding up. "The only way I can think of to reason with them at this point .....is...........I suppose we just need to be blunt and tell them how important it is that they evacuate with us now." she said as she had stepped a few feet away from the people so as not to cause alarm just yet. "other than that I'm open to suggestions Cait." she added. <> -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Speaking of which, he should decidedly correct that now. The closer he was to the entrance, the more chance of contamination. He wondered what Lox might need to speak to him about privately. Caitlin had just returned to the shuttle with one of their injured, might there be something medically wrong that they had overlooked? Eventually he reached the entrance and quickly ran the short space towards the shuttle. There was something about being in the open on a planet full of radiation that unnerved him. The shields and suits did nothing to alleviate that worry. "Commander." He smiled grimly as the shuttle doors opened and he walked inside. "Commander. You didn't have to come all the way back, but since you are here... Let me show you as well as tell you." Lox said "Inside the shuttle you can remove your helmet.. " He pulled up the radiation levels, the sismic scans, and the like "We have less than 48 hours before this get to the point of no return. We need to get these people off the planet. That's Captain's order as well. We have to convince them that it is necessary. " Marcus blinked and fell quiet a moment, his eyes scanning and rescanning the data that Lox had just shown him. He bit back a remark and thought back to what the inhabitants had said to him upon first contact. "That is not going to be easy." "If they don't wish to go, we can't force them. We have to convince them, that's the only tool we have. Next, sismic readings are picking up. If this continues, the caves could become unstable, however, unless something changes, everyone will already be dead from radiation exposure before that happens. I just wanted you to be aware of it. You are inside a volcano, and things could change at a moment's notice." Lox continued. This time Saladin scratched the side of his face in quiet contemplation. "And last, but most important... everyone will need to wear their EVA suits, sans helmet for now, and with helmet starting in about 8 hours or they will risk radiation levels that will four them out of starfleet." Lox did not look happy. Marcus stood stunned a moment longer, then training and protocol kicked in. "There's been no news from the asteroids? Nothing that might prevent this radiation overload? And the seismic activity you have indicated, is it local or world wide?" Justin shook his head. "So far as I can tell.. world wide. I'm not the one tracking it all, just keeping the readings I can get and relaying them to the ship, as well as watchign them for the team's safety. I've not heard anything from the ship about the away team inthe asteroid field. I am hoping they can find a reason for the flares so we can stop them. I have several theories, but unless we can get proof that one of they is the right one, I cannot risk even suggesting we try any of them. If I am wrong, the cure for most of them will destroy both planets, and possibly the ship if we cant get to warp 9 in time." "You offer a pretty bleak view of things commander." He let out a sigh, "Well, I suppose I should head back and try and work with the doctors to knock some sense into these people. I understand honor and dying with your planet, but there has to be a better way." He placed a hand on the console in front of him."I know the true seismic shocks are not set to hit us until after death by radiation." He gave a bitter sardonic smile, " But what dangers does it offer us until that point?" Cait had been listening to the conversation. "One thing we could try is to show them the 3D scans of the woman I brought back. Its not a pleasent death and even the children would be facing it. Need to point out as well that their food and water is now contaminated.I also reccommend we go to full EVA with the helmets from the start. We have no idea if the radiation will increase faster than current scans indicate." "At the moment the shocks are too deep to be an issue, other the shake things a bit, but if they start to surface, you are in the historical path of a known magma eruption. If they start getting worse.. I'll try to warn you before they can start damaging the magma tube you are all hiding in, which makes it VERY stable vs. an earthquake. " lox replied "I agree with Dr. Blake. Full time suits should scare them without panicking them." [Vimy] Looking into the mirror she adjusted her twin pigtails and smoothed down her uniform as she looked around, noting she still needs to unpack as three small boxes sat in the corner of her bare quarters. Walking over to her bed she put her hand on her Aldean music instrument and closed her eyes letting her body play a soft pained melody before turning and sticking her phaser in her belt to slip out to the main corridor. Walking with her back straight and a intimidating look on her tiny form she mustered the courage and entered the turbolift to go to the security chiefs office. Moving to the door she hit the call button and said, "Sir, Ensign Marie Lyndosee reporting in." When he left, the security chief left a setting on the door. "Security Chief DuMont is on the bridge" the computer rang out "Damn it", Marie though and turned quickly and walked down the corridor and to the turbolift. "Computer Main Bridge please". The turbolift lifted up and stopped at the bridge and she stepped out. The small four foot girl looking almost like a child in a halloween costume with her hair in two pigtails as she walked up and stood in attention and saluted the security chief. "Ensign Marie Lyndosee, at your service Sir!" As the turbo lift doors opened, Toby turned to see who was arriving, not seeing anyone at first he stood up and looked. One blond brow climbed towards his hairline as he saw a woman in starfleet uniform shorter than his wife. He watched her ignore the fact that the captain and executive officer were both present to go to the tactical station, salute and address the security chief. He lowered his gaze to the captain and shrugged, before he looked back at the short ensign. "Ensign is there a problem?" -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... He lowered his gaze to the captain and shrugged, before he looked back at the short ensign. "Ensign is there a problem?" She stands straight quickly and whispers, "No sir, nothing wrong. Protocol requires I report to my direct superior as soon as I am checked by medical and approved for active duty. As soon as I have followed protocol I will be ready to do any tasks you have." Noting the chief of security is busy she stands in attention off to the side until ordered by any superior to do otherwise. - Hide quoted text - "And just when did you plan on reporting to either the captain or myself Ensign..." He paused so she could provide her name and realize the error in not reporting to command with her orders. Looking confused she tensed and whispered, "I was told to report first to the security chief after the medical examination and then to speak to the executive staff as the security chief would have further orders for me for when I speak to executive staff." her face obviously confused do to being told to speak to the security chief first when given her orders but starting to feel she got confused or mislead or someone forgot to give her the proper instruction. "As the security chief is busy I assume protocol will allow me to bypass him and report to you and the captain first or would that cause trouble do to chain of command?" Vilqa only just now focused her gaze on Lyndosee, "Now is not the most appropriate time to be on the bridge Ensign." It was the calm, strained voice that many who had served with her over the years knew meant to not push the next button. "Captain. We have received a message from Smith. Their shuttle is about to dock." Attention turned away from Lyndosee, "Very good. Inform Nix to report to the bridge with her findings," ordered the Captain to which she got a quick nod and could hear the officer forwarding her orders. Dark sapphire eyes once more were on Lyndosee, "Name Ensign. I need your name and where are your orders?" Her hand outstretched waiting for the PADD. [Shuttle] "I should get back. I'll leave Mary there to monitor the patient." Cait turned to get ready when the alarms went off in the medbay again. Gritting her teeth, Cait hurried back to check on things, quickly turning off alarms and not making a move to try and resucitate the patient. "Record, time of death....15:26." Mary quietly covered the body as Cait recorded her final notes and pulled up the 3D display. Turning back to the other two, her face was tight. "That's what's going to happen to the others if they don't evacuate. Its a horribly painful way to die too." Teeth grinding, the doc got her helmet on and stalked for the door. Marcus looked after Cait, "They should leave, it's illogical to say." Then he turned to Lox, "I'll just take a moment to do as you suggested and store the informational pictures of how she died. They can't ignore that." He shook his head and moved to the console to do just that. "You should stay here and keep monitoring the planets condition. Give us as much warning as you can if anything changes." Another look at Cait, "Commander, with your permission I'll catch up with you as soon as I can." "Can't argue its illogical, Marcus, but getting them to agree to move is another thing entirely..and sure, catch up when you can." Cait replied. - Hide quoted text - [Vimy} "Doctor," Vilqa waited, "Lox is Blake still within comm range? If not I need you to get me an assessment of approximately how many survivors we are looking to evacuate. USS Mistral is on standby 500 kilometres away and USS Lapin is at our disposal should we require her." "She is still here Captain." Justin reported. "Doctor Blake?" He looked over to her. "There's several hundred natives in that cave, so yes, we're going to need the help of those other vessels if we convince them to evacuate, Captain." Cait said. [Bridge] "Very well." Vilqa nodded, not that Cait could see. [Shuttle Bay] Kylee quickly gathered up all the data she had collected from the shuttle trip on to her PADDs and rose. Moving for the door as it opened, she slipped out, first removing the EVA suit, glad to be rid of the annoying thing. She handed it off to one of the ensigns to be cleared for reuse and quickly made her way out of the bay. She heard the call for her to report to the bridge and broke in to a jog, already planning to head there before the call. "Captain, on my way with some disturbing data.. and a possible way to alleviate conditions, but it will be only temporary relief." [Vimy] "I will wait for you to arrive on the Bridge to explain Nix. I want the feed broadcast to Lox as well." Vilqa said before turning her attention back to the Ensign. Taking out her PADD she stood on tip toes to hand it up to her and stood again at attention with her hands behind her back. Her eyes lowering as she whispers, "I thought I was to contact my direct superior first then he would introduce me to the executive staff." She looks with worry up to the captain as she moves foot to foot looking to the chief of security and back to the captain, her hands gripping and tensing as she waits quietly Vilqa reached for the PADD and scanned it over and nodded, "Computer update security clearance to Level 4 for Ensign Lyndosee serial number 6H1-MLHUM-225T VilqaBravoDelta41Echo." A moment passed when the female voice replied, "Level update confirmed." K`y pressed her thumb to the PADD confirming the order then handed it back to the woman. "Now if you would please... get out of the way." Vilqa was clearly not in a socializing mood and questioned whether the Ensign should remain on the bridge, "DuMont please find something for the Ensign to do." -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Gripping her PADD in hand, she increases her pace, breathing slowly and remaining calm even with the situation growing ever worse. [Bridge] Ensign Marie took the PADD and stepped back with a soft whisper, her demeanor turning pale and shaky as her straight back tensed and her eyes moved to her feet as if a trained reaction to someone who is her superior snapping on her for wrong doings, "Yes Mistress". She then obediently moved to a small distance from the chief of security and stood quietly until needed. Toby had been uncertain what to make of what he was picking up off the new ensign, her refering to K`y as Mistress however caused both brows to vanish into his hair and to try to get the captain to not blow her stack, he leaned in and whispered in her ear, "Gently Captain, something is terribly wrong here, I don't think this young woman should have ever graduated or been cleared for duty. She needs serious help." Vilqa grit her teeth as she heard the hushed tone from Toby to herself alone and his soft words for her ears only calmed her somewhat; "You will address me as Captain, Ma'am or Sir." Her eyes shot to DuMont to get a handle on the situation; this was not the time for this. Not when people were dying and her crew were in a perilous situation. "Find something for the ensign to do," and she thought but did not say, 'preferably off the bridge.' The doors to the bridge opened yet again, Vilqa spun to see if it was Nix or someone else. Marie gulped but tapped her fingers on the back of her neck and centered herself, her demeanor changing and she again looked stoic and confident as she stood at attention waiting until needed and to await her orders. Her eyes move to the door and look as they open. "Reporting for duty Captain" said Ensign Fen, feeling a sudden jolt in her stomach. K`ylana nodded, "To your station Ensign. Lieutenant Sulp you are relieved for now." The two engineers exchanged positions and the Captain once more waited for Nix. Kylee reached the bridge a short time later and stepped out of the turbolift, only slightly out of breath from her jog. Her eyes sought out the captain, making her way over to the woman, eyes glancing about to see who else was there as well. "Captain, I believe I have determined the cause behind the sun's solar flares, and perhaps a way to slow the effects until able to determine a permanent solution." - Hide quoted text - The crystal blue eyes of the executive officer looked over and took in Ensgin Fen. Years of practice kept the thought in his head from finding it's way to his mouth, ~Another one? When it rains it pours.~ Though he knew of the new crew coming in, he didn't quite expect them to show up on the bridge, with one of them being the equivalent of a psychological shuttle wreck, and the other well time would tell. He just hoped she didn't put the captain in a worse mood. The mission was enough. Ensign Marie saw the engineer enter and move to the captain then to her station and stood out of the way to stand guard until her commanding officer ordered different, her eyes scanning the bridge trying to feel everything out and put it to memory, her mind going over the fact she has upset the captain her face a look of worry but trying to hide it behind a mask of confidence as she stood straight and waited for further orders. Jason turned to his subordinate, disappointed. He spoke to her in a quiet tone. "When I am on the bridge, that does not mean its time to 'check in'. For now, go to security and begin weapons maintenance. And for future refernce, report to the captain and executive officer before reporting to me. Understood?" "Yes Sir", Ensign Marie said and turned a bit pale while lowering her eyes at another scolding as she obediently bowed her head and moved to the turbolift and pressed the button to go down, the sound of the doors closing hushing the whimper she lets out as she goes down to the task at hand. As she left, Jason turned around to face the captain and exec. "I apologize. It wont happen again" The Captain nodded slowly, "Thank you DuMont." She then took a moment to calm herself before continuing to DuMont, "Contact the USS Mistral and request their assistance to aid in evacuation for those who are willing to leave." Jason nodded. "Aye Captain" he said, typing a message, which read: "USS Mistral, this is the USS Vimyridge, requiring assistance in the evacuation of civilians planetside. Please respond" -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... "Understood Captain. I need a class 1 subsurface probe launched to coordinates 120 by 74, depth of 100 kilometers. There is indication that there is a weak spot in the continental plates in that area." Justin replied. "Standard seismic payload for the probe." Vilqa glanced back to as inconspicuously as possible monitor the new ensign, Fen, and how she reacted to the orders from Lox. Sorala glanced up at the view-screen for a second and the after a short pause looked down and began to key in the co-ordinates. 'OK, you know how to do this' she thought. Her expression briefly changed to one of panic and then she seemed to compose herself. "ready for launch Captain" she said. "You are free to launch Ensign." The captain sat heavily in her chair as she rubbed her left temple, "Lox standby for the probe's arrival. DuMont have you received confirmation from the Mistral?" Jason nodded. "The Mistral has responded. They are en route. ETA, 1.5 hours" [Shuttle] Saladin finished collecting the data he needed, he could hear the captains word to Lox over the intercom and he grabbed one of the holographic storage devices before heading to the shuttles doors. "Wish us well." And then he was out, in full E.V.A. suit, heading back to the caves and praying against any tremors. [Ridge] Vilqa's lip twitch slightly hearing Marcus so that she nearly smiled knowing he was well, "Nix what can you tell us. Lox I need you to listen in." Toby turned his attention to Nix, to hear what she had to say. Kylee took a deep breath, looking between the captain and the commander. "The data I discovered has shown that this is being caused intentionally. Someone, for some reason, is throwing the asteroids at the sun. However.. We may be able to use the asteroids to our advantage, as a shield against any more attacks." "How so?" Toby asked, quietly. Kylee turned andmoved over to a free console, pulling up the image of the sun and planet. "The asteroid protecting the shuttle during that flare gave me an idea. This area in between the sun and planet is far enough that it would allow us to position several of the larger asteroids in to a location to act almost like a shield," she stated, pointing to a certain area between the two. "Right here, if positioned, would protect the planet, and allow for us to watch for any large debris that might break off and head for the planet. It will also be far enough away to prevent any gravitational effects. So, while the planet is protected, we can investigate the readings of the ship that was launching the asteroids." "In our present location, with the radiation interference can we accurately use our tractor breams?" Vilqa asked in general to the bridge. Toby looked to see if anyone could answer the Captain's question. The answer came from someone listening from the planet. "In theory, if you modulate the tractor beam, like we do the phasers during a borg encounter, you should be able to maintain about 80% tractor beam effectivness." Justin repsonded. "It would take a partial reconfiguration of the emitter array." Kylee furrowed her brow as she listened to Justin's response, pulling up the specs on the tractor beams, as well as estimates of what would be necessary to act as a proper "shield". "If needed, do we have access to any small rockets we could attach to the asteroid, to help guide it and hold in place?" she asked, trying to think of the best way to protect the planet. "I could assist with this, or could work on finding out who was behind this.." "Class one probes would work for that if we don't have any chemical rockets in storage." Justin replied over the comm. "We need to get this done quickly, we are fast approaching the point of no return down here for radiation exposure to those in the caves." Kylee nodded, looking back to the captain. "With your permission, I would like to begin moving this asteroid in to position," she said, pointing to one of the larger asteroids in the field. "If we get it moved in to location within the next hour, that will prevent any more damage to the planet, and only cause a diminishing of the sunlight, much like a solar eclipse." "Might I suggest using the ships shields to bump the asteroids away from their intended trajectories. You will need full shields for the large asteroids, but only the navigational shields for the smaller ones." Justin added. Jason looked up from his console. "USS Mistral has arrived. They are standing by" [Caves] Cait was only a short way into the tunnels when Marcus caught up with her. She seemed to be standing there either thinking or staring at the walls. Xoron was waiting, and watching for Cait's return, when she returned alone, his stoic demanor became stoney and he made his way over towards Cait, easily seen approaching through the crowds due to his height. As Marcus reached her he spied Xoron and spoke quickly under his breath to his commanding officer. "We need to take him aside, and show him this." He briefly held out the holographic data recording. "It's eveyrthing that happened to your patient." Then he fell silent, making sure nobody else could overhear what he had said.. Cait sighed softly and whispered back. "I'm not holding out much hope of that." She seemed to brace herself for whatever Xoron was going to do or say. Xoron stopped in front of the two, and looked from one to the other quietly. "I'm sorry, but she didn't make it. Xoron, she wasn't getting better when you brought her to my attention. She was nearly dead." Cait said regretfully. {Caves} Kat went back to treating the people and doing her best to convince them that they needed to seriously consider leaving the planet. She knelt down by another group and scanned them checking their vitals. "I know you like it here but this place has become far too dangerous to stay here. " she said calmly. A young man looked up at her. "but this is all we know.....and where will we go?" he asked. Kat thought for a moment "I'm sure there's a much safer place possibly another planet perhaps or maybe a federation colony out post..but I suppose that bit remains to be determined." she told him as she made her scans though they revealed what she'd been seeing for quite some time, increased levels of radiation. "I see." Was all Xoron said. "You are suited up, are you leaving?" Marcus shook his head, "Not immediately, but radiation levels are rising again Xoron. We don't think we can stop them, everyone's going to get a lot sicker, quicker." He looked at Cat briefly, "Can we chat to you privately for a few minutes?" Xoron looked about then bellowed, and the man could bellow he was the kind who'd make generations of drill sergeants envious. "Balkion! Feddies need ta talk!" Then he looked back at Marcus and Cait, "This as private it gets, you talk to Balkion too. Others will stay back." The rotund male huffed as he less than elegantly jogged toward Xoron, "You need to talk?" he was a wee bit out of breath, "Then do so." Rough hands adjusted the rainbow coloured tunic he wore. Marcus looked briefly at Cait, then turned to acknowledge Balkion and Xoron. "We are facing two problems right now. The first, is the radiation." He looked at the many injured and sick that lay within the caverns, his arms fulfilling an all encompassing gesture, "The radiation has been causing your peoples sickness. The radiation is what means our Federation officers must wear these suits. It prevents the radiation from contaminating us for a certain period of time." He handed the holographic imager to Cait, "If you want to see what happened to your friend when Commander Blake went to treat her then the commander here can fill you in." Cait brought the scans up. "As you can see, there's organ degredation all through out the body. In layman's terms, she was dissolving from the inside. This is what's going to happen to all your people if the radiation levels continue to rise. The radiation in the caves is rapidly heading towards dangerous levels and your food and water is already compromised." As Cait finished her brief talk Saladin spoke up again. "Even if we were able to prevent the radiation we have just become aware of a second issue." He paused and took a deep breath, "Your planet is tearing its self apart. Large seismic activity will soon destroy what is left. There is no easy to way say this. We are out of options for saving your planet." Xoron shook his head sadly, sadly because the Feddies didn't understand. They knew about the radiation, it was why they had retreated to the caves, and if the sun's tears wanted to kill them, then they had obviously errored somewhere and upset the sun. It was a matter of belief and religion and faith. Something that made Xoron sad, because obviously the Feddies had none of it. He left the talking, however, to Balkion. He was better at it. Cait picked up a sense of what Xoron was getting at. "Let me ask you something. What if solar flares have been caused by someone else?" "Is that, not why you are here? To help? If they are being caused, should you not stop it? All we had who could... Already left." Cowards in Xoron's mind, but he would not speak them. "That's what we're trying to find out and stop, but it might not happen in time. Would you agree to at least getting off the planet and somewhere safe until we do?" Cait asked. "I speak only for self when say no. Leave planet, then I not be me." Xoron crossed his arms and lifted his head. "Look Xoron, Balkion, this is not happening because the planet or sun is angry at you. This is happening for other reasons that may still be impossible to stop. If you leave here you will be able to continue your way of life, and your beliefs on another planet, if not then everything about you dies here, a long, slow painful death." Marcus was becoming frustrated. Balkion tipped his head to the side, "I live and breathe for my planet. Would you abandon yours to demise?" Blake, C. Blake, Saladin,Lox, Nix, Fen, Xoron and Balkion (NPCs)) "Lox," the part klingon's focus shifted for the umpteenth time in the past couple of minutes, "We have Ensign Fen from engineering on the bridge should you require anything from your department." "Understood Captain. To help?
