From kylana.14th at gmail.com Mon Oct 26 13:15:07 2009 From: kylana.14th at gmail.com (Kylana ~) Date: Mon, 26 Oct 2009 10:15:07 -0700 Subject: [Vimyridge] SD941023.10 _ Can we go now?! Pt 3 - Vilqa, Blake, Blake, Lox, Saladin, Wilkinson, Reed, Nix In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: "You do make some valid points; however," Vilqa leaned in, "Do not make this a habit to try and weasel out of away missions. There will only be so many opportunities to do so. Take off your EVA suit and report to sickbay immediately." She wasn't so much angry at Ivri it was the fact that both Nix and Ivri contacted her now, the very last minute to be removed from the away team. The situation, not the people pissed me off. "Anybody else not feel like going?" She yelled out to the team gathered as she reacted on pure instinct and stress more than anything else. Justin almost replied that he should not go because of the increased radiation and how Trills are more susceptable, then thought better of it. Nick... much like the rest of the security members present responded with silence, simply standing in their EVA suits, ready for inspection... but even with their silence, and proper stance (almost the position of attention, but not quite), the anticipation of going on an away mission was thick. They were not only ready to go, but excited to do so. Nick had only been on two away missions since being on the Ridge... he was looking forward to another... maybe this one would go as good as the first one... he hoped. Cait gave the Captain one of her most impish and wickedest looks she could manage..and she could manage some pretty good ones. For one moment, the desire to poke at her captain was overwhelming and her hand twitched with its need to rise and wave that she didn't want to go. Course, that wasn't true, she couldn't wait to get down there and get to work but the look on K`y's face would be priceless until the quarter Klingon killed her. For a moment, her love of poking command warred with her common sense. Common sense won and her hand relaxed its twitching. Vilqa simply glared at Cait momentarily. Kat heard the captain and shrugged there was no way she would turn this chance to prove she was finally putting the attack behind her and going back to being her charming self once again. She looked in the captain's direction giving her a look of determination making it clear that she was definitely going. She looked at it two ways prove to those around her she was more in control and for however brief a time it was time off the ridge which she felt was much needed for her to completely recover. Marcus lumbered into line, stirred from his own thoughts by the vacillating voice of the captain. Well, maybe vacillating was the wrong word, and oscillating wasn't right either, hmm, purely shouting would do. He looked to the captain. "My operations team have everything under control, I'm ready to move to the surface." He then glanced at Justin, "Assuming my suit is fine." Justin moved over to check Marcus' suit. "Doctor Blake?" K`y then motioned with her fingers for the woman to approach. Wiping the expression of incipit mischief and mayhem off her face and replacing it with her doctor face, Cait scooted over to Vilqa. "Yes, Captain?" "There has been a change of plans with Counsellor Ivri." Calmness, calmness, calmness was the mantra in her head, "She is staying on board the vessel. That now means you are one crew member short. If you need another now is your chance to comm a member on your team. I don't want you lacking the necessary personnel while plansetside." Cait frowned, mentally saying some things best left unsaid. "I need a counselor planetside....I'd like Ensign Larkens then. She's had some psych training." "How about Doctor Jurard? Perhaps he is an option to join your team on the surface Cait?" Vilqa was amazed she even remembered the name at the drop of a hat. Cait considered the suggestion for a long moment and nodded. "He'll be just fine. Time to break that youngster in, so to speak." Kylee waited patiently for the captain to respond to her request. She had a feeling Vilqa wouldn't like her going off on her own, but perhaps she could work out something to allow her to follow her hunch about the asteroid field. Vilqa finally turned toward Nix, "Speak with Commander Lox to confirm which shuttles have had recent servicing then come and see Commander Blake and I in a few hours once we know everybody is settled on the planet and we can discuss your request." Kylee nodded, glad to not have to try and slither in to those damn EVA suits, hers never fitting comfortably on her body, meaning she felt restricted. "Yes captain, I'll speak with him right away," she said, nodding once more before turning on her heels heading over to Commander Lox. Justin looked at Marcus "Your suit checks out, however according to the on board computer, it is nearing it's end of life. After this mission, it will need to be replaced. Though that is probably good advice for everyone due to the radiation we will be dealing with." "Well that's comforting." He gave a crooked smile, "Just what decides when that life is at an end?" He asked the question while thinking that he might just change suits anyway. Better safe than sorry right? "Well.. two different factors. Wear and tear, radiation absorption, and just general usage time. Yours happens to be the last. It is the least worrying as it is an arbitrary time set by some manager at Starfleet." Justin replied. "Your radiation absorption and wear and tear markers show your suit almost unused, except for training sessions." Marcus grunted, "Much better." He smiled again, "That's exactly what I wanted to hear." Toby watched over the chaos, or what appeared to be chaos, looking for signs of problems. Spotting and feeling none, he relaxed for a bit. He'd check again before people left. <> -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Vilqa, Blake, Blake, Lox, Saladin, Wilkinson, Nix, Juard, Griffin, Daephon Message-ID: Kylee paused before Lox, waiting until he was free for a few minutes. "Commander, I was curious as to which of the shuttles not going to the surface have been most recently serviced?" she asked. Justin continued down the line of people checking their suits. Most were in perfect order, though some he noted were nearing their lifespan, others had a glitch here or there. "Shuttle 12 is the last one to be serviced before We started modifying shuttles for this mission. What do you have in mind for my shuttles?" Kylee arched her brow slightly as he referred to them as his shuttles, seeing he was highly protective of them. "If the captain approves it, I am planning to use one to explore the asteroid fields to look for more information on the source of that iron," she explained. "Don't worry.. I'll take care of it.." "Actually, if I have any say about it, you won't be using that shuttle. You need the metaphasic shielding we installed on this one, the one already on the surface, and the one behind this one. If you give my team another 2 hours, they can get you one for exploration with the needed modifications." Justin said as he finished checking another suit. "For safety, you should also wear an EVA suit while exploring." Kylee nodded, sure the captain would prefer her using a shuttle with that shielding, though she would be far enough away that any radiation would be minimal. "I'll let the captain know, she wants me to wait a couple hours before exploring anyway," she said, wrinkling her nose slightly as she thought about wearing the EVA suit, letting out a sigh. "If you think it's best, though would prefer to avoid wearing that damn thing.." "I'm just trying to anticipate what Dr. Brody would require of her changes. I hate these things too. That far out, you should be fairly safe, but one of those large flares reached the probe we had in the belt. Without the shielding, you would burn up just as fast." Justin said. "We need to figure out a way to stop them. That's your department. Once you know, either contact me, or talk to Lt. Honeydew in Engineering. we will make sure whatever needs to get done, does." "Hey, Chief!" Crewman Daephon said, coming up behind Kylee. "Are we going or staying? I'm all suited up." Kylee glanced back over her shoulder, looking at Crewman Daephon. "You don't have to call me Chief, crewman," she said, a slight smirk upon her lips. "You're going, I'm staying.. and hoping to go elsewhere in another shuttle. You will be taking any readings needed, such as radiation levels, leeching effects of the soil, etc," she stated, glancing back to Justin and nodding. "Don't worry.. I won't do anything too stupid out there.." Kat awaited inspection of her suit she hadn't used it much and figured it'd pass. She fidgeted while standing in line. 'what was the hold up' she thought. She watched Lt. Reed for a moment feeling a sense of pride over the fine officer she'd watched him become thinking it was just over a year ago she'd noticed him during her first away mission since reporting to the Vimyridge. She mentally prepared herself for the mission hoping it'd be as successful as the first. Justin moved down the line to Kat, and started checking her suit. "Tisk Tisk, you haven't been taking care of your suit. Power levels are at 75%, and the recharger log says you haven't had it in for charging in over 2 years. " He looked up at her and grinned "You pass.. get aboard." "I'll try to follow your example, then," Takis said, heading back toward the departure area. He re-checked his equipment and prepared to get going, all the time trying to paint all the new faces in his memory, and attach overheard names to them. When he was able to do that, he started throwing in other observations that might help him later. The Chief...the Lieutenant...whatever seemed a much more eager type than any other Science Officers Takis had worked with. Sometimes the department heads seemed to get jaded...because of all the bureaucracy, he supposed. But then, Takis had only served planetside so far. Maybe these spacer types were more excitable as a rule. He finally decided he was properly outfitted and began helping the other crewmen load up for the mission. Kylee watched Takis as he moved back over with the others. Studying him for a moment, she turned and walked over to him, leaning in close to speak softly with him. "Be very careful down there.. with the radiation, those who live on the planet are going to be desperate to escape. Keep your phaser handy, and don't take any unnecessary risks while you work," she said softly, knowing that those on the surface were sure to be panicking. "I know you'll do fine down there, Takis." "Thanks, Ch...Ma'am," Takis said, hitting his temple on an overhanging shuttle flange as he turned, but continuing as if he were used to doing that, which he was. "I'll be careful. You do the same." He smiled genuinely, though Nix's reminder struck a chord of dread in him and he went back to work a little more grimly. Kylee winced slightly, partially from him hitting his head and partially from the Ma'am. "Are you okay?" she asked, tilting her head to look up at his head. "And.. how about you just call me Nix... that sounds better than any other titles.." she said, nodding slightly as she smiled. "I will try.. got to be willing to take some small risks.." Opening comms Vilqa made one final request, "Lieutenant junior grade Juard please report to Shutty Bay 1, EVA suit mandatory. You have five minutes." There was no need for additional conversation on the matter. Moving toward the shuttle the Captain jumped in and approached Garret, "How are your nerves holding up?" she full well knew that the flight wasn't going to necessarily be simple; especially with the impending flares and other possible dangers that could loom, "I am going to need you to use your visuals more than usual. I don't know what sort of possible havoc the radiation may cause to instruments and readings so don't fly blind only counting on readings." Matthew nodded his head. "They are alright, im just trying to recall something they taught us in the academy. All dealt with flying instrument-blind through sorts of radiation. Ill be fine ma'am." Matthew smiled. "I usually use my visuals all the time, so it will be fairly easy." "I suggest you have Commander Lox as co-pilot but helm is your responsibility and your specialty." She reassured Garret that ultimately the flying decisions were his alone. Matthew nodded in agreement. "Yes ma'am. Thank you. Ready whenever you are" Marcus overheard the captain's encouragement to Matthew and added his own version, "As long as we make it it on piece that's the main thing. We can put up with a few bruises from the buffeting." "Soon as Juard gets here we'll be good to go." Vilqa tapped Matt's shoulder then made her way out of the shuttle past the stored boxes of medication and other supplies, "It's going to be a tight ride. There's certainly a lot of supplies in there." she said as she jumped out of the doors, avoiding the stairs of the shuttle. Marcus moved over to the supplies, starting to double check that all the correct ones were on board. Cait would no doubt do the same, but she had sent him a list and he would ensure that her stress levels were minimal. The doctor needed to fully focus on the task at hand, it was no doubt going to be a huge one. Anything he could do to re-assure and make that job easier was a positive. Toby moved over to Cait and when he got close murmured, "You be careful down there, no unnecessary risks. Don't let your desire to save everyone overwhelm your common sense, do what you can, and maybe a little more but don't put people in harm's way any more than you must." Juard walked in looking around the room. He was wandering why he was called here. "What is going on?" he said. "I'll do my best, Toby." Cait murmred back. "After all, I have two very important people to come back too." She gave him one of her knock down smiles and turned to Juard. "Ah, Doctor Juard, glad to have you aboard. We're heading planetside to see about helping the population deal with the radiation flares. Its gonna be busy." "What do you mean busy?" Juard replied second guessing his transfer because of this. The tiny doctor sighed. "We're going to have to innoculate the population and deal with whatever exposure to the radiation has done so far." "Oh that is busy."Juard said with a smile. Justin walked over to Juard "You ready to go?" A look of horror crossed Cait's face. "Do not tell me you're piloting, Justin." Matt laughed. "No, ma'am, that would be me" Cait eyed the young ensign, much like a cat eyeing the canary. "You haven't been taking lessons from Justin have you?" "It has been more than 3 years since that mission Doc. It was also an extraordinary set of circumstances. I doubt you will ever experience such an interesting ride as that one, even if I am piloting." Justin smiled. "He hasn't had a chance to try my simulations.. though he should come down to engineering some time and give them a try, it would be educational." Marcus looked over his shoulder, "Remember, one piece, that's the main aim." <> -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... He had set his alarm for 3 hours of sleep. This was his minimum needed to keep going. He's pay for it later, but right now, even 3 hours felt too long. He kept mulling over how the ferrous oxide could have ended up in the star, and what had that cargo hauler been doing so near the star. Could this all have been some sort of accident? Some mining accident... or was it deliberate, and they had left the ship to break up to hide the evidence? These were questions that needed answers, and he had no idea how to answer them. Kylee starred at the screen, looking at the location of the asteroids, her brow furrowed in thought. She tapped her comm badge as she sat back, needing to speak with Lox about sending a probe to the site to search for signs of any ships moving through the area. "Commander, you still have those extra probes out there?" she asked. "Probes are still out there, planned course should have them... one near the north solar pole, and the other two making their way towards the equator on the far side." Justin replied as he changed uniforms, having fallen asleep in the one he had been wearing earlier. Kylee nodded, running a hand along her face, already back to her schedule of not sleeping for more than an hour at a time. "Can you send one to a different area if I give you the coordinates?" she asks, climbing to her feet and beginning to pace back and forth. "I can send them to you, or meet you somewhere.." "Meet me in engineering in... 10 minutes. I'll have one of the probes ready to change target loaction by then." He replied. "On my way," she said, looking around and grabbing her uniform top, pulling it on over her tank top as she walks to the door. She grabs her PADD as she walks by the table, examining it to make sure that she all the necessary information. Justin finished changing his uniform and headed for Engineering. A few minutes later, he walked into Engineering. Kylee finished setting her uniform in place, lifting a hand up to cover her mouth as she yawns as she makes her way through the hallway to the turbolift and to engineering. Taking the short ride down to the deck that Engineering was located on, she steps out, walking absently as she studies the PADD in her hand. "Probes are ready to new course entries. Where are we sending them?" Justin asked as he saw her. Kylee glanced up as she stepped through the door, looking over at Justin. "We're looking for any signs of a ship in that asteroid field.." she stated, making her way over to him and offering her PADD to him. "I think that's the source of the ferrous oxide." "Could it be the one that we saw break up?" Justin said as he entered the information into the computer. Kylee blinked, looking as though she'd been hit by a ton of bricks. "I.. wow.. perhaps I should get more sleep.." she said, running her hand through her hair. "It might be.. but why let the ship get destroyed if it's needed?" "One of two reasons... first, t wasn't' supposed to break up.. so it was an accident. The second... to hide the evidence. Had we not been scanning for anything and everything, which most Federation crews would not have done, we would never have noticed it." Justin replied. "I'm hoping for the former, but the mathematical probabilities suggest the latter." Kylee nodded, looking at the computer screen. "I wonder.. do you think it might be a trick to throw us off. Or perhaps that ship was damaged and needed to be destroyed.." she suggested. "We don't have enough information to answer any of those questions. The ship, by design, did have a way to transmit a distress call, and it didn't. That much we know. Why it didn't, we don't know.." Kylee sighed, looking thoroughly worn out from all of this. "Hopefully the probes will give us the information we need, because I'm growing tired of just adding more questions with no answers," she said, the frustration evident in her voice. "Such is life on the 'Ridge. When I was head of Sciences... I added nearly 200 kiloquads of questions for research... and almost no answers." Justin said "I prefer Engineering.. have a question, build the answer. Probes will be at the asteroid field in ... 25 minutes." Kylee arched her brow at that, looking over at him. "You were in charge of the Science dept?" she asked, nodding slowly as he mentioned the arrival time of the asteroids. "Hopefully they'll be able to find something.." "Yep. Started in sciences... Was promoted to Acting Lt. and put in charge of the USS-Audax's Science section. When the Engineering position opened up, I shifted over, since by science specialty was basically engineering anyway. Been here ever since." Justin grinned "Built a shuttle called the Giskard. It made these probes look like children's toys... but it was all cutting edge tech. When the Xelucian war broke out.. our first victory was because I used it's cutting edge tech as a anti-matter bomb. Took everything it had to punch their shields, then detonated taking out a large section of their ship." He was still saddened by the loss, but happy that it proved so effective as a weapon. Kylee nodded slowly, wincing slightly as he mentioned having to blow up the shuttle, since it sounded as though he had been really proud of that ship. "Have you ever thought of building another shuttle like that?" she asked. "Because Starfleet won't let me. The Captain, being bound by regulations, can't let me build another either. As it was, she stretched the rules to the limit, to let me build the first one. As much as I want to build another one, it isn't going to happen.. and I won't push the matter. I've just have to stay within the bounds of the rules and regulations, but within them.. this is the most advances Galaxy class ship on the line. Every upgrade Starfleet has allowed for this ship has been done and taken as far as they will allow. That includes bio-neural gel-packs and computer core components. I've also been adding the holoemitters in the corridors and common areas, based on Starfleet's newest specs for the EMH Mk 2. Currently we are just ahead of the regulations.. and this war has slowed things down so it may be a while before it is fully operational." "Oh.. that would be a good reason to not build another one.." she said, a slight smirk upon her lips. "This ship is definitely more advanced then the ones I've been on.. but, it's not hard to be more advanced than a bird of prey," she said, covering her mouth as she yawned again. She glanced to the screen, clearly anxious for the results of the probes. "How soon will we begin to get the readings we need?" "20 minutes, at least." Justin replied. Kylee nodded, looking around. "I have a bit more data to go over in my lab. Will you let me know what information we get from the asteroid field?" she asked. "I'll have the computer sent it as soon as it starts arriving." Justin replied as he made some adjustments to the data on his PADD. "I've got the probes scanning for any ion trails from impulse style engines while they are enroute. Maybe we can detect something that way." ------------------------------------------- Respectfully submitted by Lt Cmdr Justin Lox Engineering Lt Kyle Nix Science -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Kat remarked about being noticed as she poked at what was left on her plate with her fork. "that's what I've heard though I wasn't a part of the Scylax crew long enough to find out....you see that was my first assignment out of the academy." she added. "The first assignment is always an awkward one Commander," Vilqa said with an air of knowledge, "The learning curve is steep and the work can be punishing until you learn to balance duty correctly." Marcus listened to the words of truth that the the captain offered. "I do remember wondering if I would ever have an hour free ever again." Kat nodded at the Captain's words. "it was awkward but also fun at times." she stated as she took another sip of her drink. "this one's has had it's moments too. although I wouldn't call them awkward." she added. "some challenging while others have been quite amazing." she smirked at that last comment remembering some pretty amazing moments. "Hmm, sometimes I think that balance is the wrong word." He scratched the side of his cheek thoughtfully, "Sometimes I feel like there is no balance, it's all duty." He fell silent for a moment, "I feel like we knew what we were doing when we signed up and therefore even when we're off duty we're still technically, 'on' duty." Vilqa couldn't help but laugh as she thought of her supposed times 'off duty' "It seems that despite R&R and not being 'on duty' we always are doesn't it? It is true for command but there should be moments of time for non-command personnel to actually take a breather." Vilqa drummed her fingers softly, "It would be nice, " she said looking upward wistfully, "That we could actually have a break - a true break where vacation does not turn into some sort of investigation or horrid cluster-bomb." Kat turned her head focusing her emerald green eyes on the captain. "Is that possible?" she asked. She figured the captain was well aware of her request for leave so she wouldn't mention it. VIlqa's brow rose, she had not considered any individual leaves or even thought that is where the doctor was going, "Hmm?" She queried without words. "What I mean is, is it possible to have some sort of vacation not turn into an investigation or such?" she asked wondering if indeed there was plans for ship wide R&R in the works. She knew both herself and at least lieutenant Reed could benefit from much needed time away. In fact he'd told her he had plans. she blinked pulling herself out of those thoughts of issues still needing to be resolved though unfortunately not anytime soon as she would hope it seemed. K`ylana laughed, "Doctor it is never our intention to have R&R turn into work but it is what it is at times and we need to react accordingly when problems arise." She leaned back, "Though perhaps here away from the the 14th and the war and with the least amount of camaraderie amongst vessels and command we can maybe finally get a break that is just that -- a break." Marcus smiled, "It would be nice I will admit. Hopefully somewhere that has alot of history and culture to it." He grinned then, his idea of a vacation was maybe slightly different to many others. For instance, he was not the biggest fan of Risa, preferring to study ancient ruins and tour museums. "Something similar to an ancient earthen Rome or a Macchu Picchu?" Vilqa questioned Marcus; "And your idea Doctor?" "My idea of vacation?" she asked raising a brow. She knew where she needed to get away to earth, those thoughts often consumed her as she worried about her mother. "Yes your idea or shore leave Doctor?" The captain curiously asked before pushing her empty plate aside slightly and motioning for a server and ordering a Hong Kong style black tea. Kat sat back thinking for a moment remembering R&R she 'd experienced while on the Scylax. It went well until the strange body shifting that went on. She'd never forget waking up to find herself in the body of one of the engineers from the ship. "My ideal vacation would have to include lots of time on a beach." she said with a smile. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Ivri - Counselor - "Confinement Issues" Message-ID: <2CDBC47F1B6B4667A0D6EC3B8997FB4D@MicsPuter> Ivri left the shuttle bay with her bald head held high, right until the door closed behind her then things changed. The Counselor felt defeated... no she felt that she had let her crew, her friends and her family down by semi-wriggling out of going to the surface with the rest of the crew. To top it off she had done it at he last minute and that is what was bothering her so much at the moment. Ivri knew that Dr. Cait would have counted on her and she felt that she had let her CMO down more then the rest. At least Dr. Kat was feeling up to it. It would do the young woman good to be away from the Ridge. Ivri chewed on her lower lip as she walked ever so slowly through the corridor towards Sickbay. She had been ordered there by the Captain. Reality was that she had expected nothing less from the Captain. She had wriggled out of the mission. It would be her loss she was sure and yet at the same time it would the Counselor some time to talk with those she had not met with in a long time or at all. It was a big ship after all. Instead of arriving at Sickbay like she should. The counselor found herself at the arboretum door. The door swished open and she stepped in... as the door swished shut and the warmth enveloped her like a soft fuzzy blanket she released her pheromones almost like she had never done before. Confinement was almost making her mad. In a way Ivri missed Niamh. The Counselor wondered how the young girl faired she was the only other Deltan that Ivri knew personally that served in Starfleet. There were others, sure, but Ivri did not know them. Ivri sighed and stepped forward and meandered within the arboretum until she found the bench that faced the area where the once small lizard had made into its home. She leaned back and looked up into the branches of the tree. She smiled and pulled her knees up and wrapped her arms around them. The Counselor had a lot on her mind but it was stuff she didn't know if she could share with any one else. Sometimes, being the Counselor on a ship was a tough job. It involved confidentiality like no other and confidentiality on a ship was hard to keep. Ivri closed her eyes and rested her cheek on her arms and rested for a few moments trying to release the issue of having to have been confined in the suit. Lt. Blake and Saladin you two are taking the lead on the surface so nobody leaves the established caves without informing them is that understood?" Vilqa said from the door of the shuttle. Marcus looked at Vilqa, "Understood Captain." He looked back to Blake and the others, hid mind now remembering Federation protocol for landing in unknown conditions, questions to ask, searches to make. It was going to take a team effort and without a doubt would require every bit of skill each officer had. Cait nodded her understanding and looked over at Marcus with a grin. They served together for a long time now, not counting the time he was off the Vimy and she new he was someone she could trust to have her back no matter what. Marcus smiled back to Cait. They had not been able to catch up one on one for a while, due to motherhood and the craziness of war. Perhaps the ride there and back might serve such a purpose. Barely able to sit still, Takis fumbled with his equipment in an attempt to contain his excitement. Only aboard the ship for a litte while, and already swimming with quite a few officer types! He didn't hold any expectations that he'd be more than an information gatherer, but then again, he loved the work, even in a dangerous environment. "Anybody bring a magazine?" he joked, to no one in particular. Marcus quirked a brow at this old earth reference, "They would hardly be appropriate for the mission at hand, and regardless exist only electronically except for in the oldest museums." He smiled, "but if you are interested I can certainly help you find some when we return to the Ridge." "Nah, 'sokay," Takis chuckled. "I was just hoping to pass the time, otherwise I'll get nervous and jump out the viewport 'n swim back to the ship." He laughed heartily. Toby shook his head and chuckled then looked at K`y, wondering if she was wondering the same thing he was. How was it they always ended up with such odd crew? At least most of the crew was tried and true and would look after the new ones. That was one thing that seemed to be a standard tradition on the Vimy Ridge, even back on the Audax. The little doc settled in seat behind the pilot, pulling out a hypo and injecting herself. "Anyone else get motion sickness?" If this pilot turned out to be from the Justin school of insane piloting or if the trip go rough, she really didn't want to be tossing her cookies. Justin took hes seat next to the pilot "Shields online, weapons offline to conserve power. life support, gravity plating, secondary systems all report nominal. Ready to depart once everyone is onboard. Just take is slow and easy.. you don't want the Doc there decorating the inside of her EVA suit.. or yours." Matthew nodded. "Understood" he said as he worked the controls to get underway. Vilqa tapped the door frame of the shuttle and jumped back, "Safe travels." She then backed up so the doors could be closed and the shuttle could depart then spoke to Toby, "She will be fine," the Captain of course spoke to Cait; "And will be back up here before you know it. I do hope the new doctor clicks in well with everybody; away missions like this to an unknown when being new is always a bit unnerving." Kat took her seat not far from Cait, She fidgeted with her equipment for a moment trying to calm her nerves. Being aboard the shuttle made her think back to the disastrous Tamco mission. She was relieved not to be in charge of this one as it was left to the more experienced officers. She'd observe and learn more from them as she could building more self confidence. She glanced at Nick and to the seat near her wondering if he'd take it so maybe they might get a brief chance to talk. She wanted a chance to clear the air between them and admit her mistake and try to fix the strain on their friendship. Toby stepped back and nodded to K`y, "Oh I know she will be. She does alright on her own, and she's been showing signs of needing to go, to do, to get some peace and quiet. Not that Rose is a troublesome child. Just typical in wanting a lot of mommy and daddy time. And the new doctor will be alright. She'll take care of him to." He chuckled, "She can mother him for a while." Nick took his own seat, his eyes moving toward the ramp that the everyone was using to board. Trying to mentally prepare himself for the mission, he turned his head toward the pilot for a moment... despite his preparation, his thoughts kept going to Cugino... and the O'Rourkes... damn, what he'd give for an old earth vice... a simple cigarette sounded wonderful right about now. He blew out a thin sigh, looking out the view screen, leaving his thought, and whatever emotions that may or may not have been attached to them, to himself. Marcus nodded to Justin's verbal checklist as he adjusted his own seat, then looked at Toby as the doors closed and the first officer stepped back in. "Justin informs us that things are ready to go so Matthew can take off when we're ready." He looked around him, wondered how K'ylana was really taking it. She never liked being away from the action. Wondered what Nix would find on the asteroids. Wondered if they could get clear communication from the planet to the ship with all the radiation problems. Wondered, in short, a great many things. K`ylana nodded at Toby's comment then turned on her heels, "We've got our own work to do. And if I know Nix as well as I think I do she is foaming at the mouth to speak to use about her little side foray that she requested. I am returning to the bridge, feel free to observe the shuttle depart before joining me." Toby gave K`y a smile of thanks, "I will be with you shortly after they leave. Have to make sure the new guy can pilot out of the shuttle bay without scraping the paint." He winked and turned his attention back to the shuttle and it's last minute preparations. [Bridge] Vilqa entered past the sliding doors, "Any confirmation the shuttle has departed? she asked the moment the Captain reached her chair. "No Ma'am. They have not left yet and we have not received any notification of issues either." the officer added before Vilqa could ask. Clearing her throat Vilqa spoke directly to the shuttle's comms, "This is Captain Vilqa any explanation for the delay?" Just because the bridge heard of no issues did not mean none existed. [Shuttle] Toby frowned as he noticed that the shuttle wasn't taking off yet, he didn't sense any problems from inside the shuttle and turned to look at the crewman overseeing the forcefield controls for the shuttlebay, who shrugged in response to the XO's questioning look. Matthew pressed a control to answer the captain. "Sorry, ma'am. I had a little trouble with the starboard nacelle. We are all set to go" he said. He was just about finished. "Shuttle craft to bridge, request permission to disembark" Marcus took a deep breath as they were cleared to go. There was always a certain amount of nervous energy to try and contain before leaving for any away mission. One of his Vulcan mentors at V'ron had taught him a few tips to deal with it, and so now he remained quiet, his eyes closed, fingers tips of each hand pressed firmly against the other, slowing his heart rate and running continuing to run through the mission routine in his head. After they departed he would probably have plenty to say. Cait was quite the opposite of Marcus. Yes, her eyes were closed, well, more like squeezed tightly shut. Her hands gripped the arms of her seat with a vice like grip. Always she blamed it on that time in the stone place, something fun to tease Justin about. Now it was a smoke screen to cover the real issue. The terror laden fear of being shot down as the shuttle tried to leave Katan'ka. She remembered the turbulance, felt the terror of her fellow passangers, the shock of glancing hits on the shuttle. During that horrific flight, she had kept her head and worked to try and calm the others. It was something that had to be done and she did it. Maybe this was something she should talk to Ivri about but maybe not. It wasn't like she refused to do shuttle flights. Takis smiled inwardly, and smirked outwardly when the Captain spoke about Nix. So his first impression had been right; the Chief was the eager, excitable sort. Takis wasn't, but he'd always been good at going with the flow, no matter how strong or fast the current. He suddenly started itching inside his suit and squirmed. He'd never admit it, even to himself, but he was much more a ground-pounder than a spacefarer. He always carried a very slight uneasiness with him whenever he left a planet's atmosphere, and he wouldn't even be on this ship if not for his stupid drive to try new things; a drive that often got him into trouble back home. Probably wouldn't be any different here. He puffed his cheeks out and sighed. Marcus looked up, "Ensign Garret, once we have left, how long shall it be until arrival?" "Well we are going to take things nice and slow, so probably shouldnt be more than thirty minutes, if we're lucky" "Bridge to Shuttle MacDowell, you are clear for departure." came the slightly delayed reply. <> -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
