<Holodeck>

     
Kat returned to the holodeck once more still determined to keep
fighting the memory of her attack. Cugino still plagued her subconcious
mind with threats to kill her and Nick. "computer replay previous
program un enhanced " she announced. she stood back and watched the
whole thing wiping tears from her eyes as she'd heard the exchange
between the holo-image of herself and Cugino.she'd seen when Nick was
finally able to enter the room and watched as he scooped up her
unconcious form and laid her on the biobed. this was what she needed to
see. "he did make it in" she murmured feeling a little more relieved as
she hadn't known what happened until she woke up and saw Cait and Irvi.
she would have continued to fight Cugino if the gas hadn't been
introduced into the room. the scene seemed to slow as for a moment the
image of Cait stepped away from treating the image of her.
"computer....en..." she began and then paused as the scene showed just
her lying there with nobody at her side until. she rubbed her eyes as
she saw Nick come back and move to her side.

     

      Nick was staring at Kat... staring at that bruise on her
gorgeous face...  He gently brushed the hair from her face, running a
finger slowly down her cheek.
 
"I... I'm so sorry," he whispered, he couldn't deny that he loved
her... the problem was though, that he wasn't IN love with her...  He
just cared deeply about her, she was a good friend.  He hated himself
for seeming so cold with that thought.  He felt bile rise to the back
of his throat, his eyes narrowing... he knew the sensation well... it
disgusted him...

  Kat lay so still before him the effects of
the gas still had a hold of her. as Nick stood there his mind wandered
back to somewhere in his past.

 
<Several years ago>
 
"Your mind is fractured... you have the mind of a deadly killer,
Nicholas," said Jerel, his ebony eyes staring into Nick's pale blue
gaze.
 
"I am one..." Nick pointed out, "I don't want to be... help me...
how do I fix my head?" Jerel stared at him for a moment, removing his
hand from his temple.
 
"Disassociation..." Jerel said after a while.  At Nick's blank stare, he sighed, "Give that killer instinct
a name...  Push it all off on that name, that person... do you even pay
attention in class?" he asked.  Nick winced, psychology... not his
strong suit... he'd have to learn more on the subject...  "Put up the
wall I showed you, and put your instinct away... you'll still have your
skills, you'll just have more... control.."
 
"Nicholas..." Nick said, it was Jerel's turn to give him a blank
stare, "I'm Nick... that... murderer... he's Nicholas..." he said.

 <her nightmare>
   Kat's mind was awash with recent
events. Cugino's face and foul breath haunted her even as she slept.
she'd wince and stir a bit through those moments.  ~"who are
you?......what is it you want with him?..... "why go through me to get
to him?"~  Kat heard herself asking those questions again. just as Nick
would protect her she'd do what she could to protect  him. 
 
  "Computer freeze program" she said.  Still standing
at the side watching the scene before her Kat leaned against the wall
and slid to the floor tears streaming down her cheeks. "handsome ,you
were there" she whispered softly to herself. she walked over to where
the image of Nick stood and stared deeply into those piercing pale blue eyes.
she knew it  had to tear him apart to a point to know someone had hurt
her to get to him. "you blame yourself now don't you.....you think it's
your fault I was hurt."  she said softly as she reached up and touched
his cheek. "don't blame yourself my sweet friend, it's not your fault
no matter who sent him." she whispered softly as if she were actually
saying that to Nick himself. yes she cared for him maybe a little too
much at times but he is her closest friend. "computer resume program"
she said as she walked back to the side again.
    the scene resumed  Kat
 watched as the image of Nick  began to lean down over the image of her on the biobed.


 Nick closed his eyes slowly standing, he took Kat's hand in his kissing it before leaning down to kiss her lips, softly.

 
She stirred a bit as his lips touched hers. he'd see a quick flash of
green as her eyes fluttered open then closed once more drifting back to
the comfort of the quiet darkness of sleep. 

"He'll pay for
this..." Nick whispered, "...He'll regret ever laying his hands on
you..." added Nicholas as he turned to head out the door, once again,
putting sickbay behind him.

     "computer end program" she
announced as she turned to leave the holodeck and go back to her
quarters. she'd learned she hadn't lost him as she thought he was still
very much there for her though his mind is currently occupied with
seeking who sent Cugino as well as doing his duties,
